<description>Russia continues its “diplomatic” campaign of trying to threaten Ukraine’s allies into halting their support for Kyiv, most recently accusing the U.K. of facilitating deep strikes into Russian territory. “We have to understand that Putin is guided by a very strong inferiority complex. He’s been jealous of the West and (...) he actually holds a personal grudge against the West. (...) The U.K. is an epitome of that sentiment,” said Misza Czerniak, journalist with TVP World's sister channel Vot Tak, adding that he doubts Moscow would actually venture to attack Britain. “I would assume the Baltics, Poland, and Romania are much closer and easier targets for that.” Another source of Putin’s irritation is the growing sentiment against the war in Russian society, with the only party that vocally opposed the war, the liberal, extraparliamentary Yabloko, being banned from running in the upcoming 2026 parliamentary election. “Their support has never been so large,” Czerniak said, referring to polls giving Yabloko 18% of support. “I think this time they became the symbol, the symbol of hope and the symbol of the anti-war sentiment within Russian society.” The Vot Tak journalist pointed out that 18% is “a huge number of people in Russia,” and that he believes the actual support is even higher, but “18% are brave enough to declare their wish to vote for this party.” “(Putin) saw the support, when he saw multitudes of young people standing by the Supreme Court of Russia eating apples, because that’s what the word Yabloko means, and chanting ‘shame, shame, shame,’ (...) he also saw that Russian opposition within the country and outside of the country showed almost unanimous support to Yabloko’s cause,” Czerniak explained. “And he didn’t like it.” Join News in Depth’s host Ashim Kumar and his guest as they discuss these topics and more, including why Ukraine has focused its long-range strike campaign on “the Russian Amazon,” Wildberries; what the strikes on the online retailer’s warehouses have done to Russia’s economy; and how the company is trying to mitigate its losses by seeking to move its operations outside the country.
