He says he wants the country to be 'friendly to Russia', even though Russian bombs are annihilating Kyiv in the middle of winter. This clearly translates the term 'friendly' into its true meaning: subjugation. He then moves on to Moscow's demands, such as the "restoration of the rights of the Russian-speaking population", despite the fact that it was the Russian army that killed the most Russian-speaking civilians during its offensive in eastern Ukraine, and despite the fact that there is overwhelming support for the defence effort from both Ukrainian and Russian-speaking people in Ukraine. Another demand is the reinstatement of the privileges of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, which has always been a branch of the FSB controlled by Moscow. Ryabkov says that if these demands are not met, the existence of the Ukrainian state cannot be guaranteed, clearly alluding to a continued attrition war in which Russia is prepared to annihilate the entire country and render it uninhabitable, just to prevent a sovereign Ukraine that is not controllable by Moscow from existing. While these threats would have been really worrying in 2022 or 2024, when Ukraine's situation was truly dire, these threats sound more like a sign of desperation than strength in the context of Ukraine's ongoing successful attacks on Russian industries and refineries, and the gradual collapse of the Russian economy.
