Russian UAV operator posted a video demonstrating how his drone waiting in ambush suddenly loses signal after Ukrainian drone flying over and projecting an unusual light pattern on the ground. This was interpreted as scanning the ground in the area of suspected enemy drone ambush presence with a powerful light source which, under right angle, leaks into the controller fibre optic and overloads the drone's optical signal converter, physically damaging the electronics. The key factor that enables this phenomenon is that the fibre optic used in military drones is manufactured without relatively thick plastic cover that prevents such interference, which is done to save on weight and cost.
