https://video.echelon.pl/videos/watch/26551c76-0288-405b-8efb-88fc60da06bf U.S. President Donald Trump said on social media that Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed to cease strikes on Russian oil infrastructure, although the latter said that he expects Russia to reciprocate by not targeting Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. But can such a truce last? “I have zero confidence that Russia would live up to any agreement like this,” retired General Ben Hodges, former commander of U.S. Army Europe, told TVP World. Hodges also said there is “no evidence” Trump is willing to help Ukraine and that he remains “very skeptical” Russia would honor any truce. Commenting on a recent strike on a train near the Polish border, Hodges argued that “Russia is already at war with us, in the West,” with Europe as its main target. “What they’re doing is reckless and very dangerous, and they are doing all they can to fill the space that we give them. (...) When there are no real, meaningful consequences for them, that’s space,” arguing that Europe has failed to impose meaningful consequences on Moscow. “At some point they are going to go too far, and we’re going to have something that kills people. We have to prevent that from ever happening,” Hodges said. He said that Trump “had multiple opportunities to tell who he describes as ‘his good friend,’ Vladimir Putin (...) to stop doing what they're doing,” adding that “It’s embarrassing for me and sickening, but I don't think this American president is going to do any of that. “So Europeans are going to have to work more closely together,” Hodges said, arguing that the combined potential of Europe and its partners, including Ukraine, “dwarfs Russia.” “If they can come together, then Russia would not dare to do what they're doing,” he said.
