How should Europe respond to these blatant acts of Russian sabotage? “Some of these cases are not any more just sabotage – they are cases of state terrorist,” said TVP World’s Editor-in-Chief, Michał Broniatowski, pointing out that that is the way the EU’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas and Poland’s Foreign Minister Sikorski, described Russia’s actions. The recent incidents in Germany have also been linked to Russia by Berlin’s top-level government officials. “This is another step in this is what is called ‘a hybrid war.’ Russians, for their own unclear purposes, are using methods of terrorists who want to kill civilians.” The biggest question, perhaps, is how should Europe respond to these actions in a way that would deter Russia? “The best way to deter it would be to do the same thing on Russian territory,” Broniatowski said, but added that he doubts European capitals would be ready to take measures that drastic for fear of further escalating the conflict. For now, “closing consulates, which Germany did yesterday, may be symbolic and painful for the support of Russian spying operations. But of course, it will not deter them.” “You have to deter Russia using our other means, for example providing Ukraine with enough military means to not only defend themselves against massive attacks,” that the Russians have been conducting against Ukrainian cities daily over the past week.
