Stephen Doughty MP, Minister of State for Europe on Russian misinformation: This year, Russia alone plans to spend 30 million euros weekly on state propaganda. The misinformation crisis is not "outraged citizens" but millions of social media accounts managed by state-funded troll farms, writing in every single European language, plus thousands of actual infulencers paid to amplify more nuanced messages. Russia runs a systematic disinformation operation, driven by metrics, goals, KPIs and other business management methods that can be described as the largest and the most expensive public campaign in the world. Tip of that iceberg could be briefly seen when Twitter started indicating the country of origin of all profiles, and most of them came out to be connected to European countries over VPN but many of them using app store from Russia, India etc. Most European countries however are lost, pretending millions of hostile comments are simply "opinions" rather than weapon and that "truth will defend itself", while anyone using FB or Twitter can see it's losing every day and the war is being lost by walkover.
