Greece is now proposing to suspend the right of asylum for some migrants, a measure already adopted in Poland. Is that the way to tackle the problem of illegal migration to Europe? And is it even illegal migration that we are witnessing in the first place? “We will always have illegal migration, (...) that is a phenomenon which we cannot eliminate,” said Marcin Zaborowski, TVP World’s Europe Editor. “But it’s one thing to have illegal migration, and it’s another thing to have an organized push through the border,” he added, providing examples of migrants being weaponized by one country to exert political pressure on another, including the 2021 crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border, which is still ongoing, albeit with much lower intensity.
