<description>As the CIA chief arrives in Moscow on an unannounced visit and the Trump administration grapples with multiple international crises, questions are mounting about the purpose of the high-level talks. What urgent concern could be important enough to send one of America's top intelligence officials to Russia? “Radcliffe’s visit looks like an emergency trip to Russia, very similar – terrifyingly – to the visit of his predecessor under President Biden, Secretary Burns,” Michał Broniatowski, TVP World’s Editor-in-Chief, said, referring to what is widely recognized as an attempt to dissuade Putin from invading Ukraine mere months before it occurred. Broniatowski sees three possible scenarios as to why Trump’s head of the CIA was dispatched to Moscow. One being the fear of nuclear escalation in Ukraine. The second, the prospect of Russia attacking a NATO eastern flank country, one of the Baltic states, or Poland. The third and most likely scenario, however, has nothing to do with Ukraine, or even Europe, neither of which are a “top problem now for Mr. Trump.” “His top priority is Iran and the knowledge (...) about Russian support in targeting American positions and locations in the Middle East,” Broniatowski said, adding that “any possible Russian attack in Europe or escalation of war in Ukraine are more or less neutral for the midterm elections (...) but the war in Iran, which is dragging on (...) is his main concern.” Join News In Depth’s host Paweł Trzaskowski and his guest as they explore whether Washington's contacts with Moscow signal a looming security crisis, why some EU countries are pushing to revive the discussion about using frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine, and what a potential reduction of the U.S.'s military footprint in Europe could mean for NATO’s eastern flank.
