As TVP World’s Chief International Correspondent Alex Cadier explained, targeting the fleet specifically designed to skirt European sanctions, is a particularly challenging endeavor, which requires going after private companies across a multitude of countries. Each package of sanctions closes a loophole, forcing the Russians to look for other ways around it. “It is a massive multibillion-euro game of cat and mouse. The Russians do not want to be punished by the European Union for their illegal invasion of Ukraine,” Cadier said. “The European Union wants to make sure Russian coffers run as low as possible, hindering the country’s ability to wage that war in Ukraine.
