We stand with you by Ukraine, solidarity with you to the end. And Ukrainians have heard them time and time again. But for many Ukrainians, these words are not really matched with effective action,” said TVP World’s Senior Online Editor Matthew Day, who attended the conference. As he pointed out, Ukraine’s Western Partners “always use this rather nice word, talking about solidarity with Ukraine and how important it is to support Ukraine. But that support comes in dribs and drabs, and never at the rate that Ukrainians really wanted to.” “So there is this kind of cynicism,” Day said. “At the same time, there is this (...) sense of deep concern that from these around-the-clock attacks are not just on the cities, but on the infrastructure,” placing growing strain on Ukrainian society and public finances. “That’s a sense of real concern,” Days said, but added that “in the opposite direction, you have this optimism from the Ukrainian army that is still achieving the impossible, the remarkable despite the formidable odds it faces,” managing to not only hold the Russian forces back but even push them back in some areas. “And the fact that Russia has thrown so much at Ukraine, at the Ukrainian army, and has still got nowhere, really, after years of fighting.” “So that's a source of optimism,” TVP World’s Senior Online Editor added.
