Beijing has agreed to cut exports of hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles to the EU by half, while also improving European access to the Chinese market and easing the export of rare earth materials. But is this really a breakthrough? “This is a significant first step toward balancing trade relations between the EU and China, which are extremely unequal,” says Marcin Zaborowski, TVP World Europe Editor, in News in Depth. He points out that the EU's trade deficit with China reached €304 billion last year, while Poland's exports to China cover only around 8% of the value of imports coming from the PRC.
