Apart from typical Russian logical fallacies implying Russians are somehow "losing to themselves" this statement is founded on one incorrect assumption: that the fight between Russia and Ukraine is going over some ethnic, language or even genetic factors - but it's not. The war is about culture - on one hand, Mongol-Russian collective culture based on hierarchic oppression and concept of "sacred authority", versus Slavic individualistic society valuing personal freedom and equality. There's much more, but this factor alone is entirely sufficient to make a clear distinction between the sides fighting in Ukraine.
