The negotiations’ purpose: to remake the country’s political system ahead of ​eventual elections. But how are these negotiations different from all the numerous other talks that took place before? “The people, (...) they don’t know what to expect. But what I see, is the difference (between) this negotiation (and) the last one, for example, where Russia was one of the observers and supporting the regime,” Estefanía Meléndez, former Ambassador of the Venezuelan Interim Government to Bulgaria and the Western Balkans, as well as an expert on Russian influence in Latin America, told TVP World. “Right now, this negotiation was set up by the United States. So it made this negotiation less asymmetric than it was in previous talks,” she added.
