This year’s parade too will display heavy equipment and some of the military’s newest acquisitions. What is the purpose of this massive show of military might? “I think effective deterrence is the key message. The very significance of the Day of the Polish Armed Forces, of course, is that (...) its date is the same as the historic battle,” said Zuzanna Jurek, TVP World’s Defense Correspondent, referring to the 1920 victory of the Polish army against the Bolsheviks on the outskirts of Warsaw. “The primary message that's supposed to come out of this military parade (...) is that Poland is stronger than ever, and ever more so prepared to deter potential adversarial attack.” The heavy presence of U.S.-manufactured equipment is very telling in itself as well. “In the NATO alliance, Poland remains [the U.S.’s] steadfast ally, a model ally,” Jurek said, adding that this is in spite of Washington’s fraught relations with other European allies, many of whom have as a result opted to procure weapons domestically or from other European allies.
