Zemtsov, as many other Russian bloggers, was an ardent supporter of the war and in 2024 happily admitted to committing war crimes in the occupied Mariupol, nonetheless he occasionally engaged in criticism of corruption or incompetence of Russian military command. As of 16 April 2026, other Russian military channels and media did not deny nor confirm the information of his suicide, but reported it as likely. Another prominent Russian military blogger Andrey Morozov "Murz" committed suicide in 2024 for similar reasons. His colleagues spoke of him and his reasons with great respect and sadness, yet they continued to consistently support Putin's nihilist and corrupt regime that they precisely described as the primary reason for their suicide.
