Alexus Grynkewich, unveiled a new “Theory of Victory” at the Warsaw Security Forum. The deterrence concept is based on three principles: block, blunt and break. “Speaking publicly about this concept is also a message to Russia: don’t try to attack us, because you will regret it,” says Adm. Rob Bauer (Ret.), Former Chair of the NATO Military Committee, in News in Depth. He adds that if the message has the backing of the White House, it demonstrates that the U.S. remains committed to the Alliance and continues to support Article 5. One of the key elements of Gen. Grynkewich’s remarks was the public discussion of the “break” phase, meaning the defeat of a potential Russian attack across all domains of warfare. “We would use long-range precision strikes,” Bauer stresses. He also agrees with Grynkewich’s assessment that a conflict between NATO and Russia is neither imminent nor inevitable.
