<description>The first and one of the most risky special operations of Ukrainian military intelligence in occupied Crimea. In the summer of 2016, a group from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine carried out a deep raid on the peninsula with the aim of destroying Russian attack helicopters and the latest air defence systems in the Dzhankoy area. The operation was planned and carried out under the command of Kyrylo Budanov. For the first time, the participants in the raid describe how they operated without official checkpoints, at night and in three parallel groups, and how they were ambushed by the elite FSB unit Vympel during their withdrawal. Despite the unfinished combat plan, the operation destroyed the myth of complete control of Crimea by Russian special services and had a powerful political and strategic effect.
